Dr. Mitcherling specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has been studying dentistry since the 1960s when he began earning his Doctoral degree at the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. He graduated in 1969 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force until 1971. He then studied Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Care Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois while he worked to open up his private practice.

Dr. Mitcherling is board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
